Abstract

In order to understand the influence of cold dry storage at 5¡É and alternating temperature treatment of hyacinth (Hyacinthus orientalis) bulb on the forcing, growth and flowering responses were studied in the four cultivars of hyacinth.
In all cultivars, growth and flowering was accelerated when the bulb was stored under the cold moist condition as compared to the growth and flowering response when the bulb was stored in cold dry storage at 5¡É. With the same storage method, no beneficial effects of alternating temperature treatment were found in flowering date and the length of leaf and inflorescence.
Only the cultivar of ¢¥Carnegie¢¥ and ¢¥Blue Jacket¢¥ could be cold stored under the dry condition and ¢¥Anna Marie¢¥ and ¢¥La Victoire¢¥ must be stored in the cold room only after the bulbs are potted for uniform flowering.
